Night of Museums – Ozobot, the Color Reader

Screen-free programming for elementary school students

What if we controlled the robot not with a computer, but with colored markers? The Ozobot is a tiny robot that “reads” colors: if you draw a red-blue-green line for it, it rolls faster, turns, stops, or switches to super-fast mode— as if you were chatting with it in a secret language.

In this workshop, after solving the challenges, the children can also design their own track. They draw the route, test it, and if the robot still doesn’t go where they intended, they work together to figure out where things went wrong—and then fix it. Just like real programers do: come up with an idea, test it, and make it better.

Why do kids love it? Because there’s no screen, but there’s drawing, experimenting, and a cute robot that reacts instantly to what they’ve created. The sense of accomplishment is immediate: when the robot finally runs exactly along the path they’ve created, that’s the real triumph.

And in the meantime (almost unnoticed), it also develops: logical and sequential thinking, spatial awareness, creativity, and teamwork— as they work together in pairs and small groups to find solutions.

Who is it for? Curious elementary school students and their parents.
