Inventions – Stories of Hungarian Genius

An exceptional Hungarian mind. A visionary who far surpassed his own era—and moved the world forward.

What happens at the moment an experiment takes shape? When, after a long series of attempts, failures, and fresh starts, the “picture suddenly comes together”? CODE’s new immersive experience invites you to relive that moment—the moment when inspiration comes to life. Discover the genius of Hungarian inventors through five extraordinary inventions and five unique life stories!

Do you know what the connection is between the Rubik’s Cube, soda water, the life-sustaining vitamin C, and the technology shaping the future of medicine mRNA technology, and the operation of modern computers? The answer: Hungarian genius. Five inventors and scientists whose vision far surpassed the boundaries of their own era. Innovators. Creators. Geniuses. Exceptional Hungarian minds who dared to dream big and, in doing so, changed the world.

Five unique life stories, five extraordinary discoveries

A common driving force: the desire to create.

Ernő Rubik, Ányos Jedlik, Albert Szent-Györgyi, Katalin Karikó, and János Neumann.

A different era, a different background, yet the same inner drive: to understand, reinterpret, and create.

In CODE’s latest immersive exhibition, you can not only learn about the history of the world’sbut also experience firsthand the moment when the divine spark is born. In a way you haven’t even read about in books yet. Light, sound, and space together guide you through those epoch-making moments when the future first began to take shape.

Discover the legacy of Hungarian geniuses, of which we can rightly be proud. But how well do you know the stories of these world-famous inventors?

Ernő Rubik — architect, sculptor, and inventor of the Rubik’s Cube. A cube, six colors, and a logic puzzle that is much more than just a game: it has become an iconic tool for spatial thinking and problem-solving around the world.

Jedlik Ányos — Hungarian Benedictine monk, physicist, and inventor; a pioneer in the development of the electric motor and the dynamo. He is credited with developing the industrial production of soda water, without which one of the most popular drinks on hot summer days— the fröccs—would not even exist.

Albert Szent-Györgyi — Nobel Prize-winning physician and biochemist who researched the fundamentals of human physiology. With the discovery of ascorbic acid, or vitamin C, a new chapter began in medical science, which proved to be of fundamental importancein the prevention and treatment of scurvy and fundamentally reshaped our understanding of health maintenance.

Katalin Karikó – A Nobel Prize-winning biochemist and pioneer of mRNA technology, without whose perseverance the world of modern medicine would look very different today. Over the course of several decades of work, he developed mRNA technology, which laid the foundation for modern vaccines and therapies, and saved the lives of millions of people worldwide.

János Neumann — mathematician, physicist, and computer scientist, the architect of the foundations of the digital world, and the developer of the Neumann principles, which continue to define how computers operate today. His achievements played a key role not only in launching the digital revolution but also had an impact on the fields of game theory and quantum mechanics.

The CODE experience, which engages all the senses, not only showcases these exceptional minds but also reveals the history of their inventions to you. Step into the world of Hungarian genius and science, and experience what it feels like when inspiration surrounds you. It’s as if you were standing right there in the workshop or lab when the spark of an idea strikes.

How long does it take to solve a Rubik’s Cube at world-record speed? Why did the paprika lead to the discovery of vitamin C? Where does the name “fröccs” actually come from? How is János Neumann’s name connected to the development of artificial intelligence, and how did mRNA technology make its way from the lab bench to everyday medical practice?

In the informative and spectacular presentation of Inventions, you’ll not only find answers to the questions above— but you can also experience the story behind their creation. Be a part of this breathtaking scientific journey—follow along on this extraordinary experience as the water spirits, born of genius&break free from the walls and set out on their journey to conquer the world.

At CODE, science is not a textbook definition, but a tangible reality: an audiovisual experience that surrounds you, moves you, and captivates you—in a way you’ve never experienced before.
